Struggling in the "New Normal" Economy

Find me on:

Is our economy recovering or not? How will your business deal with what has become the “New Normal” economy?

Every business and health care facility in North Carolina & throughout the entire country is dealing with the new reality of low job growth, increased competition, globalization, and savvier than ever customers.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal entitled “Gauging the Economic Recovery,” the economy is possibly poised for a recovery:

After four bumpy years, the U.S. recovery finally appears to be on a smoother road. Many economists now predict 2014 will be the best year for growth since 2005, while joblessness is expected to click below 7% next year for the first time since 2008. Houses are selling again, the energy sector is booming and jobs, while not plentiful, are being created at a steady pace.

The article offers charts about housing, jobs, private business/government/consumer spending, and construction projections. The charts appear to prove that an economic recovery is indeed on the horizon. Some business owners feel that now is the time to invest for the future and are making their moves.

The Real News internet site, which boasts that they have “no advertising, no government or corporate funding” – supposedly making them unbiased – has, however, a contrasting opinion. Their article, “Is the U.S. Headed toward Another Recession?,” states:

The U.S. economy remains weak 5 years after the recession despite recent job growth, due to low wages and weakened unions.

Hourglass-Zoomtosand_zps03eae295Unfortunately, whether there is a recovery or not, pressure on mid-sized companies continues to increase. Costs are mounting, competition is fierce, and you need all the available skills and tools you can find to survive the 21st century version of business. Most mid-sized businesses are struggling to find the right strategy for what has become known as the "New Normal" economy.
