Are You Mobile Friendly?

Keeping up with keyword research, search engine optimization, handling orders from both a physical store and an internet “store,” and constantly keeping an eye on marketing in general is a challenge.

man_with_cell_phoneWell, get ready for another one. Your customers now expect to have a smooth interaction with your online presence – on mobile devices. Unfortunately, having an internet website that works with both a personal computer and a mobile device isn’t always easy. Whether you like it or not, the age of mobile computing is fully upon us, and if your customers can’t navigate your website on a mobile device, you’ll lose sales.

Despite the challenge that creating either a mobile website or an app for your users is, overcoming that challenge comes with the opportunity to reach audiences that were out of your sphere before.

While fully embracing mobile will take some real effort, you can start making a dent with two major actions.

Start Advertising On Mobile Friendly Platforms

If you are brand new to mobile and must create something entirely from scratch – as we mentioned, either a mobile friendly website or an application for the different operating systems that run mobile computing – it will take time to get that set up. You can, however, start reaching mobile customers right away by taking advantage of platforms that have already done all that work.

By advertising in marketplaces, forums, and review sites that are already geared for mobile, your business can become part of the online community and start reaping the benefits of being visible to mobile traffic right away. You should still start making a mobile friendly version of your site as soon as possible, but at least dipping a few toes in the mobile pool is going to give you an advantage over competitors who are ignoring the mobile market completely.

Make Purchasing On Your Site Mobile-Friendly ASAP

You may not be able to get an entirely mobile friendly site up and functioning right away. There are changes you can make, however, to formulate a way to make purchasing from your company simple on a mobile device. These changes may mean the difference between making the sale versus having a frustrated customer move on to make the purchase from a different source.

To make buying something on your site more mobile friendly, make your search function easy to find, list your products in an easily readable format, make purchase buttons more prominent, offer different forms of payment – perhaps add PayPal as an option in addition to a credit card – and make the forms that a customer must fill out bigger. Keep your sales pages clean without things that could cause a customer to click an unwanted link when using a phone or a tablet. If you can’t do an entire overhaul right now, simplifying purchase pages and the elements on them can make a big difference.
