The Sage Group, as we’ve discussed before, offers many useful business products, including enterprise resource planning systems (Sage 100 ERP and Sage ERP X3, for example) and customer relationship management software (SageCRM, for example). While The Sage Group already has a global presence with more than 6 million customers and 13,000 employees, they are now expanding yet again – this time further into Africa.

Sage Africa, which already exists, has expanded its presence there by setting up a new office in Lagos, Africa. Ivan Epstein, who is the CEO of Sage Africa, Sage Australia, Sage Middle East, and Sage Asia said that the addition of the Lagos office is part of their growth strategy as they strive to increase their global footprint.
The new Lagos office offers three products: Sage ERP, HR Africa, and Sage Pastel Accounting. Each product’s specific focus will allow for a diversified clientele and the Sage products teams plans to work closely together to improve their position in Africa.
Measured against global standards, most African businesses never reach above the upper mid-market level. Sage has been selling and implementing its Sage ERP 300 in English-speaking areas of the African continent for over 25 years. The introduction of Sage ERP X3 is an important step in fulfilling the needs of mid-tier businesses.
Sage Pastel’s accounting software has been the preferred choice of South African businesses since Sage introduced it to the market in 1989; the Standard Edition fits well with small business’s needs. Sage is also launching HR Africa, which will cater to human resources and payroll needs all over the continent. It is designed to work for any sized company.
Ivan Epstein says that despite the many obstacles – like the high cost of travel and operation, complex legislation, language barriers, and the development of local skills – Sage intends to continue exploring the exciting opportunities in Africa.
